Fourth of July

main attraction
4th of July (anti-pic, picnic, pick nick, as you will) at the
KunstPavillon im Alten Botanischen Garten
from 4 P.M.

transcript/partial of the
Declaration of Independence 1776
and
 SPURensuche /SPURensicherung...

the fourth of july picknick went fine: we arrived on time, which is already an achievement, and proceeded to install ourselves at the south western corner of the Pavillion, which contrary to what I claimed earlier, was built by the nazis rather than being a remnant of the glass palace; ... to house architectual models of social-realist sculptures... that is somewhat unclear/ to be researched.
We were met by a delegation from the Kunstpavillon, (champagne, everyone!) and Anja from the KloHäuschen saved the day by returning my project folder which I had left behind at the Pissior – containing many a sensitive and important document... anyway,
To kick things off I read the Declaration of Independence, more or less until the litany of abuse by the British began... juste the parts that are usually quoted and a bit more... the right to throw off unjust government as mainstay.

Zwischenlösung: Stolpersteine in an interior public space, not quite in front of the victims house but within sight of it...

We then went on “SPURsuche” around the pavillion; looking for traces of the german artists group that was implicated in the establishment of the establishment, being a ruin with no specific function after the war, and in fact part of one of the first artist syndicats in germany...

SPUR, also related for a while to the Situationist International until Debord decided to kick them our with perhaps some doing by latecomer Dieter Kunzelmann, later known as Spassgeurilla & egg-thrower, as well as more serious incidents...

We circled the pavillion carfully, inspecting all the nooks & crannies, but did not find conclusive evidence of the above-mentioned grouping, but quite a few more contemporary grafittos and blemishes, tags and spots... then we proceeded with the reading of an open letter which was included in one of the aerly SPUR publications, a defence of Trocci by Debord, Jorn and De Jong... in english and concerning the US governments attitude towards aforementioned.

Though it was very agreeable to linger in the shade, duty called and we headed towards the other end of the park to participate in the Köskival Parade “behinderung ist rebellion” which led us (escorted by brassband and police) past various stately buidings, the central station and popular neighborhoods to KÖSK... along which route many an onlooker asked us what in … Ankkanannan meant and if they should be offended... but no, it's just a duckhen, a bit different but not different at all...
at the <Kösk there was a wild and woolly defilé de mode in wheelchairs and high heels if you could sport them, but Bukta Paktop had not prepared for this and so war relegated to onlooker... but what a loooker!

at 6 P.M. we joined the Parade of the
KÖSKival 'behinderung ist rebellion'

REP 2

At a certain point some Finns were seen trundling off, and perhaps I thought, they weren't interested in stone peotry and improv musice, though that would have surpeised me after all those years of perf-madness an megaloud northern folklore... and yes, they were if fact en route to welcome their last member to arrive... and so, lo and behold, we were all present! It had worked, the convergence of the Belgo-Finnish Colloquial delegations on non-human actor network development had succeeded! Now we had to compare notes and figure out a program.

(Beglo-finnish delegations agreeing on 'one for the road' before retiring to a new day of planning and deliberations...)

Rep 3
The next day saw us getting into gear: the MRCVE made a decent shopping list and headed out into the commercial world of consumable perishables, with main fous on baking materials such as flour, sugar, spices, eggs, milkwhey and why... The Belgians meantime conferred and conferred, and also headed for the shops for a noon-day munchy before getting ready for another walk down the Wittelsbacher treeline to the KloHäuschen...

Arriving at 15 hrs sharp we proceeded to unroll a roll, by way of welcoming carpet and collector of traces, across the way: This being Germeny it was quite incredible to see how all the passers-by preferred to risk their lives by jumping into the bicycle lane or even the roadwy to avoid treading on or transgressing the white piece of paper... even after being invited to walk on over through our installation, they didn't trust the situation and made a complicated circumnaviigation rather than to oblige... anyway, after being slightly surprised at that unexpected aspect of our intervention, we proceeded to unfold our project, dedicated of course to Laetitia Yalon, La Titania Altezze (Hélène Bertrand) who would surely have enjoyed the afternoon and who hopefully smiled sympathetically on our efforts from wherever...
(her stones were present throughout, along with stones already present (from other actions) and stones we brought with us for the 'seedbankk of Love and Stories, which was the current activity of the KloHäuschen (see site)...

Havig found a pertinant shred of text at a venue in Antwerp before leaving, I decided to appropriate and read 'as is' – and it fit perfectly, talking about stories and rocks ans whispers on wings... Next up Julien produce images from obscure caves on his hand while speaking of the prehistoric appreciation for animals and stones, somewhere between personal experience and scientific research with a strong poetic slant.

Lise spoke of the moon, with a small sliver of moonstone handing it around, she drew the three main theories of the creation of the moon on the white paper no-one wanted to cross, one being the birth of the moon whan the earth was still soft and maleable, emerging from our planet to the begin an endless cycle of circling, turning to rock along the way – the other the imact of a foreign body, meteor or the like, and the spreading of smithereens that then formed clusters which slowly turning merged into each other to form a planetery ball doing the circular as the third, also a constallation of smithereens that formed after an eruption on earth itself, and then as with the others merged to form a circulatory sferic something... all this while listening and holding onto the sliver of (moon?) stone...

LL on the other had had prepared a story of maritime history; modifying a steamer-company flag to read “Ein Stein in den Weg Legen” - in a veritable agit-prop graphic style reminding one of Rodchenko's call to artworkers worldwide or the famous red wedge to split the whites...

Black was the theme of Jérôme's contribution: he had brought with him coal: that essential bit of our industrial develoment which has become somewhat defunct if still controversial: he washed his hands and face in charred coal, reminding us of the miners who would emerge from the pits exhausted and black: this on the white paper left traces, and his choice of stone to exchange with the seedbank was lilyflake white...

By this time J.A. From Spain had arrived as well as some visitors and the occasional passer-by so as to make the operation a quaint but agreeable sort of poetry reading with performative interlude:

Dialogist Kantor took the interactive section upon them and presented 'mano-a-mano handshakes with clay- collecting enough raw material for a decent necklace, to be cooked and glazed back in Brussels ( even though there is also a ceramics workshop at the Färberei... but there we were already wrestling with the silkscreen deparment...)

We exchanged our stones with seedbank stones, replacing each time a red replica of the only stone to return fro Ireland without a mate or story...

The stories themselves were whispered as we stuck the remaining stones into the blue condom like orfice-bags which the previous performers had prepared and left behind: the impression of which were now part of our large tracing to be presnted in the downstairs gallery at the Färberei...

first report

First report BuktaMUC

Well got off to a slow start and obviously with th holidays just beginning, it was slow going even to get to Luxemburg… but we made good headway through the heat and held animated conversations about the ramifications of rock-born network theories and such… digressing into a general soup of frech philosophical tendencies of the last half-century…
We arrived quite late but found our way quickly, first passing by the syndicated house L8, where it seemed a sort of conference was going on, and so to Ivi, who was there and where we could depose the first team (Dialogist-Kantor) to the return to L8, this time connecting with the right people and the on to Laim for the rest… it all worked out.

Following day was to get our bearings and we decided quite quickly on what to do where in which space, barring a definate veto from the MRCVE who arrived in the early afternoon and which made for a pleasant reunion… the crew of the Färberei had prepared a table with coffee and nibbles and allsorts, so the day was spent mainly theorizing and reconnecting that actually getting down to brass tacks and working too hard. Havin said that thoug, we did manage to insall a basic point of departure in the ‘playroom’ as sort of theatrical space with pulleys and such from the olf factory, interesting to create suspensions of various guises, preparatory essays and linkages, try-our compositions and just get an overview of what everone has im mind, since we never actually coordinate our collaborations.
Later towards the evening we walked over the Wttelsbacher bridge and along the river down to the KloHäuschen, where we would meet our host for the enxt day and participate in a finissage presentation… mix of music an object theatre, soundscape interventions an poetry…

-Buktapaktop will be in Munich, Germany from the 1st to the 10 th of July for a major interactive public interface encounter with the Messianic Research Center for Visual Ethics (MRCVE) with whom we have had dealings in the past but never attempted what might be called a co-production before… Our main base of operations will be “Die Färberei” at Nr. 25, Claude Lorrainestrasse…

here is the basic itinerary:
1 jul: Buktapaktop: Arrival in the eve, vernis-meet & greet at “Die Färberei”

10 jul -voyage/retour

During the visit to the Kunstpavillon im Alten Botanischen Garten on the 4th of July in combo picknick (and make-believe streetart* session? ) to then join the procession (beginning at the main train station at 6 p.m.of the Kösival “Behinderung ist Rebellion” parade back towards Laim..

inf act I had already reconnoitered the state of the sculpture where we are to commence the parade:

(*still to be discussed with each other and local players: I thought of combining the ‘visit’ to the pavillion with the creation of street-art with local players, but one which we can retrieve and show at The Färberei…based loosely on antics by the SI-related group “SPUR” who showed there in the early 60’s and which has resurfaced in the interest of the younger generation…)

see 'pavillon' page for details

anyway

the basic premise of our meeting is to investigate the non-human aspect of the Actor-Network Theory in a hands-on manner...
here i found a rather neat little diagram on the net that sort of gives you a clue (or less)

original plan/pressblurb:

Struktura Panis Contemplativa / Metaphysica

I have been asked (again) to illustrate my basic plotline, concept, brainstorm around the excursion to Munich and the colloquial meeting of Bukta&MRCVE... In fact it was Andrea who proposed the idea after out Opean invitation was received... that’s how we ended up in the Färberei.

Well, it sort of starts in the Pyrenees in the thirties... Nomads and refugees, Spanish civil war, clash of ideological blocks... Stones as it were, large chunks of hard rock balancing precipitously above the landscape:
The actor-network theory mentioned in one of MRCVE’s early dispatches... as a sort of template to compare Einstein’s relativity to the non-human actors in this said theory... a position an artist might well recognize and act upon. The Spitzbergen Seed bank as basis for the Dù Thuama /Doohma Post-office project, and with that the questioning of stones... and as chance would have it, just then Laetitia’s stones made themselves available during a small bazaar happening – and I thought: they have to travel. What better place to converge than at the KloLäuschen: petit pissoir as good as any Duchamp readymade... Surely Laetitia would agree.

Originally the gig at the Einstein (Opean8) was slated for the 4th of July, revolutionary holiday for a once great nation-state now seemingly in free-fall... But which is still influential enough to drag Europe down with it, succumbing to the same sort of bigoted short-sighted popularism as denoted state-side. What better place to investigate this phenomenon than in a town that has the sad pedigree of being the birthplace of the nationalist-Socialist experiment of the 30’s and 40’s we just alluded to. For this I had discovered a Cameo:

Queen Elizabeth of Belgium side by side with the illustrious Einstein during his brief stay as a passing refugee in Belgium... they shared a penchant for the violin... She was in fact to become best known as the patron of one of the most prestigious international violin concours, while the fact that she was a Bavarian-born Wittelsbacher was much downplayed after the war. This seemingly chance encounter has also to do with Laetitia’s stones, as well as the stories surrounding the Island of Roses in the Starnberger See, the cross now standing knee deep in the water where Ludwig II drowned... and by proxy all the strange happenings that conspired to end many a life on the shore of a pristine picture-postcard lake in Bavaria, such as the Hotel Hanselbauer (Lederer) across lake Tegernsee from the Wittelsbacher Schloss... all within sight of the same hills painted by the first abstractionists around Kandinsky...
Heady stuff when one considers that Duchamp dumped painting alltogether in Munich at the same time (1912, abstraction emerging just a year before) as Kandinsky published his “Über das Geistige in der Kunst” and Karl Valentin was on his way out. Benjamin Franklin Wedekind on the other hand was just enjoying some successful notoriety when he was whisked away in 1918... Simplicissimus and his cabaret work reign still... at the Gulbranson Museum in Tegernsee...

Speaking of traces, a certain amount of serendipity was involved when researching the history of the Pavillon im Alten Botanischen Garten, the only remnant of what was once a sumptuous ‘crystal palace’ as was the vogue at the time- burnt down as did many of the glass houses built to display modern technologies and colonial enterprise... they got Speer to construct it’s replacement ‘Haus der Kunst’ where Wiels-director Snauwaert wielded power not so long ago... but what I found interesting was that this remnant reemerged from the ashes was the haunt of a group of artists at the cradle of the artist-run movement, SPUR, which for a time were also the representatives of the Situationist International... until Debord threw them out with the rest in 62... and then the main instigator turned his attention to the creation of the Valentin-museum in the Isartor... so that fits in nicely with the dadaistic round trip... leading us parading back with the gaggle of invalids proclaiming that ‘Behinderung ist Rebellion’ ...

All this with the backdrop of the Messianic Research Center for Visual Ethics slaving away in the heat of their ovens at their temporary Frankenstein-bakery attempting to create a sort of doughboy-Golem “it’s alive!” as part of their investigation of the inanimate imbued with the power of life,- yes, so far as to animate us humans to participate in this cutting-edge research straddling the arts & sciences in a way hitherto unknown to... well anyone I should say...

So, seeing the “Opean” gig had been bumped one day along I thought it opportune to present out banquet as a ‘day after’ sort of scene: a very late hangover breakfast (Katerfrühstück) in which the remnant of that revolutionary day before smell sour and the tempers are frayed even before the first guest arrives... The American dream gone trump, the only thing that can save our social coherence (let alone cohesion) is the promise of a new man such as the MRCVE are preparing... a joint venture perhaps, a European collaboration...

Depending on the results we can already consider further future expansion into unknown realms, new and exciting places, using new and astonishing tools and methods... all developed at this very colorful (färberei) site during this (first) colloquial meeting,

Colloquium doctum!
Triticum ex machina!
Pane et circenses!

Ludi incipiant!

Laetitia stones / en route

Stone Survey

When discovering this project it seemed predestined to involve the chance encounter with Laetitia’s stones… sitting there on the shelf wondering what is to become of them… orphaned as they were… but a road trip is just the thing… so everyone was agreed to participate in the stone survey with one of Laetitia’s stones… (see further below)
In the meantime the Stone survey has developed into something more integrated with the initial project from Ierland; the “Seedbank of Love and Stories” - now we will retain the original plan to question the stones we have temporarily borrowed, and at the same time will participate in the project by exchanging other stones and stories, for we all have our very own stones and stories too of course…

that way we combine the two perfectly…

my
choice made....

these are the two stones I will take to Munich, left the stone that is going to travel on with the seed bank of love and stories, and right the selected stone from the Laetitia archive which will participate in the stone survey and tell what might be it's story... for it is the stone that must tell - myself not knowing anything about it...

more on all this on the specific stone page here

nederlands in de maak...
